Why We Source from the Aral Sea — Our Flagship Region
We source from salt lakes across Kazakhstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan. The Aral Sea region produces the red cysts with stable hatch rates that make up our Premium grade.
Distinctive Red Color
The high-salinity environment of the Aral Sea promotes artemia that accumulate more astaxanthin and beta-carotenoids, producing nauplii with distinctive red coloration. This indicates elevated HUFA content beneficial for larval development.
Stable Hatch Rates
Arid climate and consistent salt lake conditions create stable growing environments. Aral Sea cysts demonstrate reliable, consistent hatch performance batch after batch — critical for hatchery operations.
Nutritional Profile
Red artemia nauplii from the Aral Sea contain higher levels of highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA), particularly DHA and EPA. This translates to better survival rates and healthier post-larvae.
Market Preference
Southeast Asian shrimp hatcheries increasingly prefer red artemia for seed production. The distinctive coloration is associated with higher astaxanthin and HUFA content, and consistently sells at a higher price per kilogram than lighter-colored cysts.
